For What It's Worth
Platinum Group Metals

The platinum mining industry has left an indelible mark on South Africa’s recent history. These images were taken at the now infamous koppie at Marikana, where police opened fire on a group of striking mineworkers on 16 August 2012, killing 34 men and injuring 78 others. Against this backdrop I’ve used CGI to represent the total national output of all six of the platinum group metals since mining operations began in 1924.
Platinum - 136 million troy ounces
Palladium - 66 million troy ounces
Osmium - 3 million troy ounces
Iridium - 4 million troy ounces
Ruthenium - 19 million troy ounces
Rhodium - 13 million troy ounces
